1.9mm pixel pitch Mini-LED display for a TV studio in Greece

MacroPix, in partnership with Visiontech, delivered a LED display installation for Green Pixel Productions AE (Greece), featuring 1.9 mm pixel-pitch MiniLED screens for two TV studios: the game show La Ruota della Fortuna (Wheel of Fortune) (Star Channel) and the news programme Newsroom 24/7 (Antenna 1). The product used, MOBILIS-R*XR, delivers sharp, moiré-free images even in close-up shots, maximum set-design flexibility (flat, curved or angled panels), and high operational reliability, ideal for intensive broadcast use.

Installation details

MacroPix designed and delivered a high-end LED display installation for Green Pixel Productions AE, a leading Greek television production company. The project involved installing MiniLED screens with a 1.9 mm pixel pitch, serving two major television productions: “La Ruota della Fortuna” (Wheel of Fortune), broadcast on Star Channel, and Newsroom 24/7, broadcast on Antenna 1. The installed solutions were calibrated to meet the specific needs of two very different environments: a dynamic, colourful entertainment studio, and a news studio built around a clean, institutional and consistently reliable visual identity.

Advantages of the installation

Adopting 1.9 mm pixel-pitch MiniLED screens brings Green Pixel Productions a set of concrete benefits, both from a production and a creative standpoint.

The first major advantage concerns on-camera image quality: such a fine pixel pitch ensures extremely high image density and sharpness, which is essential when the screen is filmed at close range by TV cameras, as is typically the case in broadcast studios. This prevents unwanted effects such as moiré (the visual interference typical of LED screens filmed on camera) and ensures that graphics, logos and content remain perfectly legible even at close viewing distances.

A second key element is set-design flexibility. The screens can be configured as flat, curved or angled surfaces, allowing set designers to create immersive, dynamic backdrops, from the curved wall used to display maps and geographic content in the news programme, to the colourful, modular walls of the game-show studio. This adaptability makes it possible to periodically refresh the set without replacing the underlying hardware.

For a broadcast environment like Green Pixel Productions AE, operational reliability is also critical: screens need to run without interruption during live broadcasts, often for hours at a time. The technology used ensures colour stability, uniform colour reproduction from any camera angle, and high mechanical resistance, dramatically reducing the risk of failures during the intense daily use typical of a TV studio.

Finally, another notable advantage is fast maintenance: in a production environment where turnaround time between episodes is extremely tight, the ability to quickly service modules or power supplies without taking the studio offline for long periods represents a significant economic and organisational value.

Product used

This project made use of MacroPix’s MOBILIS-R1.9XR, a modular LED display specifically designed for high-end rental applications, staging, and TV, XR and VR studios.

At the heart of this product is MiniLED 4-in-1 technology: in simple terms, each individual “light point” on the screen is made up of four pixels packed into a single, much smaller and more robust component compared to traditional LEDs. This brings two immediate, easily noticeable benefits even for non-technical audiences: a smoother, more natural-looking image (because light no longer comes from isolated dots but from a more continuous surface) and significantly greater physical durability, able to withstand impacts of up to 14.2 kg — ten times more than a standard LED. Some features that make this screen particularly well suited to a broadcast environment:

  • Maximum shape flexibility: panels can be mounted flat, curved or angled (including 90°), and can switch between configurations without changing the panel’s structure.
  • Realistic colours and high definition: colour coverage up to 99.9% of the DCI-P3 colour space (the same standard used in digital cinema), high contrast, and calibrated brightness up to 1,100 nits.
  • Smooth images even in motion: refresh rate up to 240 Hz, ideal for dynamic TV footage, avoiding flickering or visual artefacts on camera.
  • Energy efficiency: an advanced design that cuts power consumption by 20% and improves heat dissipation, for more stable long-term operation.
  • Simple, fast maintenance: modules and power supplies can be replaced tool-free, from both the front and the rear of the panel.

Overall, choosing the MOBILIS-R1.9XR gives Green Pixel Productions AE a versatile, reliable and visually cutting-edge set-design tool, capable of supporting both the demanding pace of a round-the-clock live newsroom and the visual energy of a prime-time game show.
