Fine pitch indoor LED screens for Vision Ottica, Foggia

Vision Ottica at Foggia's Mongolfiera shopping center revolutionized its retail environment through an innovative digital signage project by Macropix. The installation features fine pitch LED screens with 1.5mm and 1.9mm pixel pitch, seamlessly integrated into display walls to replace traditional static showcases. Using Macropix's Subtilis-J series, the store now delivers dynamic eyewear brand campaigns, lifestyle content, and real-time promotions. The 650-nit brightness and 3840 Hz refresh rate ensure excellent visibility and smooth imagery, while the modular design allows easy maintenance. This transformation enables Vision Ottica to create an engaging, constantly updated shopping experience that attracts customers and increases dwell time throughout the store.

At the “Mongolfiera” shopping center in Foggia, Vision Ottica has completely transformed its store layout and customer experience through an innovative digital signage project by Macropix. The project integrated fine-pitch LED displays, 1.5mm and 1.9mm, directly into the store’s display walls, replacing traditional static showcases with a dynamic, engaging digital gallery.

  • Industry: Retail
  • Client: Vision Ottica
  • Location: “Mongolfiera” Shopping Center
  • City: Foggia, Italy

This project is an excellent example of how LED technology can revolutionize Italian retail. In an increasingly competitive market where in-store experience makes all the difference, Vision Ottica chose to invest in a solution that combines aesthetics, functionality, and communication flexibility. The integrated LED screens enable storytelling for eyewear brands through emotional video content, lifestyle campaigns, and real-time promotions, without the costs and lead times of traditional signage. The concrete benefits for an optical store are numerous: greater ability to capture shoppers’ attention, increased dwell time in front of display areas, ability to sync digital campaigns with in-store collections, and complete freedom to schedule seasonal messaging or last-minute promotions. All within a bright, modern environment where technology enhances products without overwhelming them, creating a cohesive visual journey from entrance to consultation area.

Installation details

Macropix’s work stands out for its design precision and seamless integration with the store’s architecture. LED screens were strategically positioned in fitted walls, behind counters and display shelves, corresponding to different brand zones. The choice to use the Subtilis-J series with 1.5mm pixel pitch ensures exceptional visual quality even at close range, a fundamental requirement in retail environments where customers interact closely with displayed products. Color uniformity and image sharpness maximize eyewear brand campaigns, making every piece of visual content perfectly legible and attractive. Below are the project’s technical specifications:

  • Product: Fine pitch indoor LED screens
  • Use: Indoor
  • Series: Subtilis-J
  • Pixel pitch: 1.5mm and 1.9mm
  • Application: Integration into display walls

The installation was designed for maximum content management flexibility: the store can independently program campaigns dedicated to individual brands, seasonal events, or temporary promotions, leveraging the same digital infrastructure without incurring printing or material replacement costs. This operational freedom transforms the store into a constantly updated communications space aligned with commercial strategies.

Product used: Subtilis-J

The Subtilis-J series represents Macropix’s answer to the specific needs of indoor commercial environments, where high visual performance must coexist with ease of use and accessible maintenance. Developed specifically for retail applications, public spaces, and commercial settings, this LED solution combines image quality, modularity, and long-term reliability.

Design and build: lightweight yet robust

The heart of the Subtilis-J system consists of compact, lightweight modules designed to simplify both installation and any maintenance work. The cabinet is made from die-cast aluminum, a material that provides the perfect balance between structural strength and low weight. Each LED panel neatly integrates flat data cables, the signal receiving board, and power supply system, reducing footprint and simplifying component management.

Structural features:

  • Module dimensions: 480 x 640 x 75mm
  • Weight: approximately 25 kg/m² (very light for LED screens of this quality)
  • Locking system for custom configurations
  • Ability to combine standard and custom modules for personalized formats

This construction flexibility allowed Macropix to perfectly adapt the screens to Vision Ottica’s display spaces, creating custom installations that integrate harmoniously with the store’s architecture.

Visual quality: sharp images that capture attention

In retail, image quality isn’t a technical detail, it’s a strategic element. The Subtilis-J was designed to deliver superior visual content capable of showcasing every detail of products and advertising campaigns. The brightness of approximately 650 nits is perfectly calibrated for indoor environments: high enough to ensure visibility even under intense artificial lighting (typical of stores), but not so excessive as to cause eye strain for customers. The 3840 Hz refresh rate ensures smooth motion imagery, eliminating unpleasant flickering effects that can disrupt the visual experience.

13-bit color processing enables extremely faithful color reproduction—crucial when displaying products like eyewear where design details and material tones make the difference. The 140° viewing angle, both horizontal and vertical, ensures content is perfectly visible from various positions throughout the store, while the optimal viewing distance of 3 meters corresponds exactly to typical point-of-sale browsing dynamics.

Reliability and thermal management: technology built to last

An LED system installed in a commercial setting must guarantee consistent performance over time without requiring frequent intervention or disrupting store operations. The Subtilis-J is designed with this philosophy in mind. The system operates stably in temperatures ranging from -10°C to +45°C, amply covering the conditions of a climate-controlled indoor environment. The IP40 protection rating (both front and rear) shields components from dust and accidental contact while maintaining necessary ventilation for cooling. Heat management relies on optimized design that leverages aluminum’s natural thermal conductivity and the use of thermally conductive materials, ensuring efficient dissipation without noisy or energy-intensive cooling systems.

Maintenance: simple servicing

The Subtilis-J’s modular design was conceived to make any maintenance work quick and non-invasive, minimizing system downtime.

  • Front maintenance: allows removal of LED panels and access to power supplies and wiring using dedicated tools, without dismantling the entire installation.
  • Rear maintenance: enables unlocking modules with professional tools for more in-depth work on boards and electronic components.

This dual access method provides flexibility to operators, who can choose the most appropriate approach based on the type of intervention needed and the specific installation configuration. The Subtilis-J thus proves to be the ideal choice for retail projects like Vision Ottica’s: a technologically advanced solution designed for simple management, reliable over time, and capable of showcasing every piece of visual content with maximum quality.
