Maxi LED Walls at Milano Centrale Station

Macropix has installed two large-format 9 × 4.5-meter LED walls in the foyer of Milan Central Station, featuring a 3.9 mm pixel pitch and GOB protection. This large-scale solution offers a resolution exceeding Full HD and is designed to deliver high-quality content with strong visual impact.

Installation details

Macropix delivered a major digital signage installation in the foyer of Milano Centrale Station, consisting of two maxi LED walls measuring 9 × 4.5 metres each. Featuring a 3.9 mm pixel pitch, the displays were designed to create a powerful visual communication platform within one of the station’s busiest public areas.

With an overall definition beyond Full HD, the displays reproduce high-quality video and digital content across a surface of more than 40 m² per screen. The LED modules also feature a special GOB surface treatment, providing additional protection to the LED surface—an important advantage for a large permanent installation in a high-traffic public environment.

Location: Milano Centrale Station
Technology: Indoor LED
Pixel pitch: 3.9 mm
Dimensions: 9 × 4.5 m × 2 LED walls
Surface area: 40.5 m² per display
Definition: Beyond Full HD
Treatment: GOB
Sector: Transportation / Digital Advertising

Benefits of the installation

In an environment such as Milano Centrale Station, characterised by a continuous flow of travellers, the scale and visual quality of digital displays are key factors in making communication immediately noticeable.

At 9 metres wide and 4.5 metres high each, the two LED walls create impressive digital focal points within the station foyer. Their panoramic format is particularly effective for advertising campaigns, video content, branding and high-impact visual communication.

Resolution beyond Full HD allows the large display area to be fully exploited without compromising image quality. Videos, photographs, text and graphics can be presented with a high level of detail, creating an engaging visual experience across more than 40 m² of display surface.

The 3.9 mm pixel pitch provides an effective balance between screen size and visual definition, allowing content to remain clear from different viewing distances as passengers move through the station.

Another key feature is the GOB (Glue on Board) surface treatment, which adds a protective layer to the LED module surface. In a high-traffic public location, this provides additional protection against accidental contact and the demands associated with everyday use.

For the client, the installation therefore provides:

  • two digital surfaces exceeding 40 m² each;
  • high-quality video and advertising reproduction;
  • dynamic and easily programmable content;
  • increased LED surface protection through GOB treatment;
  • strong visual impact within a strategic high-footfall location.

Product used

The solution was configured to meet the specific requirements of a large permanent LED installation, where image quality, structural precision and reliability are essential.

The SIGNUM-FS documentation highlights a die-cast aluminium structure designed to improve heat dissipation, together with “cableless” board-to-board connections and a design intended to reduce the number of components required.

For a display exceeding 40 m², precise alignment between individual modules is particularly important. According to the brochure, the die-cast aluminium construction helps achieve high flatness and seamless module joints, allowing the completed LED wall to appear as one continuous digital surface.

The product design also supports both front and rear servicing, providing greater flexibility when carrying out technical maintenance after installation.

For the Milano Centrale project, these characteristics are complemented by the GOB protective surface treatment, resulting in a solution designed to combine:

  • large-scale visual impact;
  • beyond-Full-HD content reproduction;
  • high surface precision;
  • increased front-surface protection;
  • reliability and easier maintenance.

This combination is particularly suitable for major transportation environments, a sector also identified in Macropix documentation among the applications for its LED solutions.
