Outdoor LED screens for Champoluc ski area

The project involved the installation of two outdoor LED screens at the Champoluc ski lift facilities, developed in collaboration with Monterosa S.p.A., a leading ski area operator in Valle d'Aosta. The goal was to enhance the visitor experience by delivering clear, timely, and continuously updated information in a high-traffic environment exposed to challenging weather conditions. The solution combines SIGNUM-FS high-brightness LED screens with Omnibus digital signage software, enabling dynamic, multi-zone content management and real-time data integration—including weather conditions, lift status, safety messages, and service updates. Engineered to perform reliably in extreme temperatures and demanding outdoor conditions, the system ensures maximum visibility, operational efficiency, and energy optimization.

Installation details

In ski resort environments, digital communication plays a strategic role: it informs, guides, and engages visitors in a fast-moving setting with constant foot traffic and changing operating conditions. For this reason, Macropix has been investing for years in the development of dedicated software features for advanced content management, particularly within its proprietary Omnibus platform. Functions such as multi-zone layouts and, above all, dynamic scheduling, capable of integrating real-time external data (weather, slope safety, waiting times, alerts, promotions), are especially valuable for lift operators.

This approach led to the collaboration with Monterosa SpA, a key player in the Valle d’Aosta ski area, for the installation of two new outdoor LED screens at the Champoluc lift station. The goal is clear: enhance the visitor experience by providing clear, immediate, and constantly updated information, combining design, high visibility, and reliable performance even in demanding operating conditions.

The project includes two wall-mounted LED screens designed to ensure excellent readability even in very bright environments and in the presence of reflections. The 3.9 mm pixel pitch offers the right balance between viewing distance, image sharpness, and overall visual continuity. With a brightness level of 5,250 nits, the screens remain perfectly visible in all conditions, while advanced playlist management via Omnibus enables precise scheduling of content, alerts, and real-time data.

Installation benefits

Deploying the SIGNUM-FS LED screens at the Champoluc lift station delivers measurable advantages across visibility, image quality, and operational value. From a visibility standpoint, wall-mounting the displays at a high-traffic entry point — the lift station — ensures maximum exposure to skiers and snowboarders at the most critical moment of their on-mountain experience: arrival and departure.

With a brightness of 5,250 nits, the screens maintain full readability under direct sunlight and snow glare, conditions that render conventional static signage largely ineffective. The 3.9 mm pixel pitch provides sharp, coherent imagery at the typical viewing distances of an outdoor resort environment, ensuring that both text-based information and graphic content are rendered with clarity and visual impact.

From a content management perspective, integration with the Omnibus platform transforms these screens into active operational tools rather than passive advertising surfaces. Real-time data feeds — covering weather conditions, slope status, waiting times, and safety alerts — can be scheduled and updated automatically, reducing the need for manual intervention and minimising the risk of outdated or inaccurate information reaching visitors. This capability is particularly valuable in a mountain environment, where conditions can change rapidly and communication accuracy directly affects guest safety and satisfaction.

On the economic side, the ability to manage multiple content zones and run dynamic playlists allows Monterosa SpA to serve different communication needs simultaneously — operational messaging, promotional content, and partner advertising — on the same display surface. This flexibility increases the commercial potential of each screen and supports a stronger return on investment over time, while the durability and low maintenance requirements of the SIGNUM-FS series reduce long-term operating costs in a challenging alpine environment.

Product used

SIGNUM-FS is designed to turn any space into a high-impact communication point, combining visual impact, refined design, and structural strength. It is the ideal solution for those looking for an LED display that stands out in terms of quality, durability, and reliability, even under intensive use. Its robust construction, long-term performance stability, and attention to detail make it a reliable tool for delivering messages and information with clarity and consistency.

By blending technology and design, SIGNUM-FS delivers a superior visual experience day after day. In sensitive and demanding contexts such as ski resorts, the Signum series is a proven and dependable choice. Below are the key features of this outdoor product range. SIGNUM-FS panels use high-brightness LED components with strong contrast and 256-level brightness control, without any loss of image quality.

Common-cathode technology reduces power consumption by up to 40% compared to traditional systems, while a 3,840 Hz refresh rate ensures perfectly stable images, even during video recording. The full aluminum module design provides excellent heat conduction, high mechanical resistance, and efficient heat dissipation. The cable-less connection system eliminates visible wiring and improves overall reliability.

The die-cast power and data box, rated IP66, ensures maximum protection in demanding environments, while the front-sealed LED module with IP68 protection withstands immersion and extreme weather conditions. Maintenance can be carried out from both the front and rear, thanks to a quick-access system that requires no screws or magnets, significantly reducing service time and costs.

Modules are interchangeable, even with different pixel pitches, allowing for future upgrades. The structure supports flat, curved, and corner configurations, enabling creative and custom installations. Thanks to its highly recyclable aluminum frame and low energy consumption, SIGNUM-FS significantly reduces long-term operating costs and maximizes return on investment. The product is covered by an extended warranty ranging from 2 to 5 years.
